articulating Nordic and Baltic Circus methodologies (2026)
The ARTiculate Nordic and Baltic Circus Arts aims to recognise and articulate the artistic circus knowledge emerging in the Nordic & Baltic region. It offers opportunities for circus practitioners to share perspectives on artistic methods, approaches, and values. The project's content and planning build on the previous successful and productive project ARTiculate Circus Pedagogy. While drawing on similar methodology, this time, rather than focusing on circus teachers and the pedagogy of disciplinary skills, we focus on artistic practitioners and artistic dimensions of circus arts. The project aims to support a vibrant Nordic & Baltic circus ecology that prioritises artistic innovation and cultural specificity.

Project activities
The project is structured around different formats of knowledge exchange and discussions about the different artistic methodologies that create the local identity of Nordic and Baltic circus arts. These are the formats we are intending to organise:
Art Shadowing and Peer-to-Peer Exchanges
Facilitates exchanges between circus practitioners such as performers, choreographers, curators, directors, and researchers across organizations and regions. Each exchanges will be documented to enhance understanding of circus artistic dimensions.
Inspirational Lectures and Dialogues
Lectures, interviews, and panel discussions, introduce Nordic & Baltic perspectives, aiming to deepen understanding of regional policies, contexts, and their impact on circus artistic methods. Through the series we define vocabulary, concepts, and discourses that articulate the specificities of Nordic & Baltic Circus Arts and their relevance today.
Cooperative Sessions on Nordic & Baltic Circus Identity
Focuses on formalizing a collection of significant Nordic & Baltic circus methods and values, mapping areas for further development. These sessions are collaborative and lead to the articulation of a comprehensive collection of circus artistic methods reflecting a diverse and cohesive regional cultural identity.
