This August, during the festival RE Rīga!, the first Baltic Nordic Circus Innovation Incubator info session was held. In this project, we put the spotlight on upcoming and innovative circus artists from Nordic and Baltic countries to create support mechanisms that would nurture their work. In some of the activities, project partners – Rīgas cirks, Teatronas, Cirko, Dynamo, Cirkus Syd, Riksteatern and Subtopia - share their expertise on how to develop artistic work and applications to international circus platforms such as circusnext.

This time, Rīgas cirks invited artist Thiago Souza for a two-day workshop, where he shared his experience with developing work for project applications and dossiers. By sharing his expertise and experience in the circusnext platform, the local artists gained insight into the more practical aspects of the creation process.

Here is an insight into the workshop both content-wise and visually:

BETWEEN IDEA, FORM AND CONTENT: HOW TO PREPARE AN APPLICATION

Workshop by Thiago Souza

This workshop explores how to develop compelling artistic dossiers and project applications, using the circusnext open call as a practical case study. Through a series of hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to interpret an open call, build meaningful constellations of references, structure a strong project proposal, and translate artistic ideas into clear, coherent, and compelling applications and pitches.

The workshop will be led by Thiago Souza – artist, circusnext Laureate 2023, and member of the circusnext artistic jury.
