The study is a legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and follows up on the first inventory study on the sector commissioned by the European Parliament in 2003.
Circus art is a vivid part of Europe’s cultural heritage with its centuries-long history, in all its forms, from the traditional small family-run companies to the fascinating contemporary circus shows.
The study that the European Commission published in January 2020 focusses on collecting, creating and presenting quantitative and qualitative information to report on the current situation of the circus sector in the European Union.
