The Swedish Arts Council has spent 9 months mapping Swedish Circus to present a report to the Swedish government with recommendations of improvements of support that the sector desperately needs. The Report in Swedish is around 70 pages, and today a summary in English has been released.
Practitioners, organisations, independents have all been asked to attend round-table sessions, fill in questionnaires and email thoughts directly to the mappers.
Currently we are getting the impression that the report is getting a mixed response in terms of enthusiasm, but the most important thing is the next steps which will involve the Arts Council working on a plan to support circus better in Sweden!
And that we are all very happy about.
